How to dispose of fireworks residue?
Fireworks casings continue to smolder for 3-5 minutes after use; though invisible, internal heat can ignite paper/plastic. In Zhejiang, a citizen who discarded uncooled waste caused a fire, resulting in 11 days detention and over 20,000 RMB in fines/compensation. Correct cooling: Submerge all waste in water for at least 15 minutes to neutralize residual propellant. Do not step on casings as it increases ignition risk. Disposal methods: 1. Used casings/debris/sparklers: Soak in water for 15+ minutes, drain, seal in double plastic bags, and dispose in general waste (gray bin). Sparkler rods are also non-recyclable due to contamination. 2. Unlit outer cardboard boxes without fire residue: Flatten and recycle in blue bins. 3. Duds with residual propellant: Do not inspect or relight. Soak in water for 15+ minutes, seal separately, and dispose as general waste. For large quantities of duds, contact community/police/fire departments for professional disposal. Source: Zhejiang Daily.
